How Amex & SPG Let You Travel Further, Faster

As the summer begins to wind down, it’s a great time to reminisce about the trips you’ve taken this year, as well as plan ahead for next year. I’ve been on some fantastic trips in 2015,  New York, Miami and Montreal, to name a few. It definitely seems to have been a year of travel within North America for me and while it has certainly been fun, I’m looking oversees for my next destinations. Some of the places on my travel list include Hong Kong, Bali, Italy and Spain. And being the travel-lover that I am, I can’t help but start planning ahead and dreaming up my future getaways!

Overseas trips can get costly, but that’s where the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express comes in. I’m a big advocate for collecting points, especially when it comes to travel, and the SPG program is one of the best travel rewards programs around. With my SPG Amex Card, I earn 1 Starpoint for every $1 in purchases charged to the Card.

Starpoints are redeemable at over 1,200 Starwood properties around the world, at all 10 of Starwood’s hotel brands, including Le Méridien, W Hotels, Sheraton, Westin and Aloft. Not to mention the iconic and luxurious St. Regis. I have my sights set on the St. Regis Bali Resort, but their 30 other properties should not be overlooked either, featuring championship golf courses in North and South America, four timeless properties in Europe, and uncompromising spas in Asia and Africa.

Alternatively, Starpoints can also be used as currency with 150 airlines, with no blackout dates. That means you can fly wherever you want, whenever you want. Now that’s what I call the perfect travel companion.

During my recent trip to Montreal with Justine, I redeemed my Starpoints for a 3-day/2-night stay at the W Montreal. We had a wonderful time and even started collecting Starpoints towards our future travels by using our SPG Amex Card to pay for treatments at the W Montreal’s Away Spa and the delicious meals we had out on the town.

To reach my destinations quicker, I try to use my points-collecting cards for everything. Back in the office now, I continue to use my Card for business expenses as well. There’s nothing better than knowing that your expenses (whether business or personal) will actually reward you with travels in the future! Plus, when you reach $30,000 in purchases each year on the SPG Amex Card, you are automatically upgraded to Starwood Gold Preferred Guest status, which includes benefits like 4 p.m. late checkout, a welcome gift at check-in, an enhanced room at check-in when available, and more. Perks that make any trip that much more luxurious and memorable, with moments that money can’t buy.

Speaking of memorable moments, check out SPG Moments. Red carpet movie premieres, backstage passes to your favourite band, or playing a round with a pro golfer are just a few of the possibilities you can redeem your Starpoints for. Amex also offers their Cardmembers special perks like Front of the Line and theatre and special dining packages with the Amex Invites program.

Travel doesn’t have to be a rare treat, nor a feared expense. You can take your next trip sooner and continue traveling more often, just by using the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express.

So… where will you go?
