Facials are a must-do task. Not only do they make your skin feel like silk, but a good facial will also clean out your pores, removing all that gross gunk that builds up over the months and that your normal, everyday skincare routine can’t always take care of. The only problem is finding the 1-2 hours in the day to get said facial done.
Skin Laundry is a breakthrough in the world of skincare and the once-west-coast-only treatment center just opened a location in the Flatiron district of New York City. So naturally, I booked myself a series of treatments to see what the fuss is all about.
Founded by Yen Reis, Skin Laundry aims to change the world of skincare using light and laser technology to vaporize dirt and bacteria from your skin, tone and tighten, and brighten the complexion. All this in under 15-minutes. Upon entering in for my appointment I was greeted by friendly staff and then came the paperwork. After I was all checked in it was time to get this show on the road. After removing any face makeup with a skin cleanser wipe, I was brought into a nice, clean room and was walked through the procedure.
First up was the laser. The technician made about two passes over my face to really get my pores sparkling clean. The laser feels a little warm and there is a slight tingling sensation. While it doesn’t hurt, there was a slight discomfort. Next up: the “light” part of “laser and light technology”. A super cooling gel is applied and trust me, it feels wonderful after a couple rounds with that laser. Then comes the light show, with my eyes closed behind the protective shades its looks like a rave. The light is supposed to help with the brightening and toning of the skin.
Once the gel is wiped off, a toner and oil-free moisturizer was applied and I was done. Time from start to finish (excluding first-time paperwork): 15-minutes.
So how did my skin look and feel? My skin was super smooth and felt like silk – it was amazing. Over the course of the next week I noticed that the pores on my nose and chin (aka my problem spots) looked visibly smaller and the chronic dry spot I have on the bridge of my nose and my forehead was starting to go away.
I scheduled my second appointment for the following weekend, and once again I was in and out in under 20-minutes. This time around the laser was less uncomfortable since I knew what to expect. After my second treatment my skin was giving off that healthy glow we all dream about. Over the next week I noticed that my problem areas were diminishing nicely.
My third (and final) treatment was scheduled the day before I left for Toronto, as I wanted nice and clean skin upon leaving. The pimple that was starting to show on my cheek made the laser snap, crackle, and pop like a bowl of Rice Krispies (it was totally gone in less than 48-hours post treatment BTW). Since I was traveling the next morning, I splurged and bought the Skin Laundry facial masks to make sure my skin stayed super hydrated on the plane.
Overall my Skin Landry experience was great. My skin is now spring/summer ready! However, I will most likely keep up the treatments at least once a month to make sure my problem areas don’t get out of control again.
