A couple weeks ago, I mentioned in a post that I was thinking about taking a trip to Montreal. Well, with the help of the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express, I’m excited to say that the trip is a go! I’ve been earning Starpoints for some time now and I’ve decided to redeem them for a much needed 3-day getaway this summer to the beautiful city of Montreal.
Starwood has 5 amazing hotels to choose from in the city of Montreal. I’ve previously stayed at Le Méridien Versailles, a truly beautiful hotel, but this time I’ve decided to mix it up a bit and try the W Montréal (pictured above). For 12,000 Starpoints a night, the 4-star hotel exudes style and comfort and has many amenities within. Perfect for a quick getaway! I’m really excited to stay at W Montréal, as the hotel has recently renovated the guest rooms, offering luxe and contemporary design to guests.
From my research so far, the W Montréal is right downtown Montreal, close to shopping, great restaurants and cultural attractions. I’ve only ever had a chance to visit Montreal on business, so I’m really looking forward to having time to explore the city and experience all that it has to offer. I’ll be traveling with my girlfriend, Justine (style blogger and Features Director at KENTON) and we’re excited to book our trip and pack our bags. One of the easiest things about booking through Starwood is the SPG app, the app is designed to learn from your bookings, check-ins and travel itinerary to provide you with everything you need, the moment you need it. If we decided to fly into the city a bit earlier and take in a few sights throughout the day I don’t need to go into the hotel to check-in, I can do it directly through my phone. If, after that sight-seeing we end up getting a bit lost on the return back, the app provides the best route from where you are to your hotel – something we’ll most likely need! During this stay we also have the chance take advantage of SPG Keyless.. W Montreal is among the first hotels to offer this mobile, keyless entry so all I need is my smartphone to access my room and I have the ease of not worrying about if I forgot my card on the nightstand.
Both Justine and I are excited for this mini-getaway but, in all honesty, we’re having trouble deciding on the best trip itinerary in Montreal. So, we’ve decided to turn the decision over to you, our readers! We’ve created three itineraries to choose from. Take a look and let us know which one you prefer by voting below.
Itinerary #1 – Rest & Relaxation
With our busy day-to-day schedules, Justine and I often like to catch up on our rest and relaxation while traveling. Naturally, we’ve scoped out the W Montréal’s Away Spa and it looks like a wonderful way to spend the better part of a day. They offer an extensive spa menu, with some very attractive facial + massage packages that have caught our eye.
We are fortunate enough to be in town on a Wednesday, so Urban Yoga with Lululemon in Victoria Square Park could be a great activity to take part in. Every week at 2pm, there is a class in the park right across the street from the W Montréal.
Breakfast at Le Cartet, would definitely be a must-try for this itinerary. They’re known for dishes that are as healthy as they are delicious – a perfect fit for a trip that’s all about rejuvenation.
Itinerary #2 – Arts & Culture
Montreal is one of Canada’s oldest cities and it is full of character, history and culture. I’ve had a glimpse of Old Montreal once before, but Justine and I would both love to walk around throughout the day and explore that part of town on foot. We’ve heard there is lots to discover, as well as an abundance of street performers to entertain us along the way.
Nearby, there’s the newly opened Clock Tower Beach in The Old Port that looks like a nice spot to spend an afternoon. The 3.2 acre, urban beach is equipped with misting stations, a boardwalk, sand and a bar serving alcoholic, as well as non-alcoholic beverages and snacks.
Then of course, there is the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Neither Justine, nor myself have been to this museum, so a visit to their exhibits would be entirely new for both of us. Personally, I would love to see what their permanent collection holds.
Itinerary #3 – Fashion & Shopping
As true lovers of fashion, Justine and I would definitely be into doing a little shopping along Rue St. Catherine and Rue Sherbrooke, Montreal’s main shopping area. I would love to check out some of Montreal’s local boutiques as well. If you have any suggestions, please send them our way!
This summer the McCord Museum has a “Horst: Photographer of Style” exhibition on display, which sounds very interesting. It is the first major retrospective of the legendary, German fashion photographer’s work. And apparently the exhibition also explores Horst’s collaborations and friendships with Coco Chanel, Diana Vreeland, Marlene Dietrich and Salvador Dali. A must-see for anyone with an interest in fashion.
As part of this itinerary, we’d like to return to Bagel Etc. for brunch. The tried and true Montreal hot spot has remained on our minds since we first ate there almost two years ago!
I can’t wait to see which itinerary wins your votes! The great thing is, no matter what we decide to do in Montreal, we’ll be able to continue collecting Starpoints through all of our activities- 1 Starpoint for every $1 spent on our SPG Amex Card!
